What Is NASBIC? Why Should You Join?

NASBIC is the non-profit industry association that has represented and served SBICs for nearly 50 years. Under the policy direction of a 30-member Board of Governors drawn from its SBIC and SSBIC members, a small professional staff in Washington, DC, conducts all daily activities.

  • NASBIC represents the interests of the SBIC industry before Congress on issues relating to (a) the provisions of the Small Business Investment Act (the law that created the SBIC program); (b) appropriations bills that provide the funds necessary for leverage; and (c) other legislative issues (e.g., securities law or tax issues) of importance to SBICs. NASBIC sponsored the major 1992, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, and 2001 legislative changes that are responsible for the present strength and growth of the SBIC program.
  • NASBIC represents the interests of the SBIC industry before Executive Branch agencies, particularly the Small Business Administration, with respect to regulations and other issues applicable to SBICs. NASBIC works with SBA on a daily basis to ensure that SBIC regulations are as reasonable as possible.
  • NASBIC represents the interests of the SBIC industry in the leverage process. This includes the "Just-In-Time" leverage process and negotiating the elements, timing, processes, and variable costs of all long-term leverage.
  • NASBIC keeps members current on industry news and produces highly regarded educational programs and materials for the SBIC industry, including the Guide to the SBIC Regulations and the Layman's Guide to the Legal Aspects of Venture Investing. The Guide to the SBIC Regulations is the only comprehensive reference work available on SBIC law, regulations, policies, procedures, and forms.
  • NASBIC education programs include the Venture Capital Institutethe industry's premier program, educational sessions at NASBIC conferences, and special programs delivered as required to meet industry or government needs. NASBIC members enjoy significant discounts on all programs.
